Case study: How to continually measure ecological flow of a fish ladder

There is a European Directive regarding ecological flow in rivers and streams. This directive regulates the minimum discharges in the ecosystems. When changes in the natural flow are made through human interventions, fish ladders are built on the riverbanks helping fishes to pass the constructions. Fish ladders are built in a way to mimic natural flows with small jumps and pools, so fish can pass the dam and migrate upstream. To ensure that fish can travel and survive in the rivers or streams a minimum flow with sufficient turbulences to enrich the water with oxygen must be maintained.
Due to the rapidly changing flow conditions and pools in a fish ladder, flow monitoring with classical methods is nearly impossible. Here the Sommer SQ-R flowmeter in combination of TQ-Tracer calibration offers the perfect solution.

The wind is the architect of avalanches!

How safe are your roads and railways during winter if there are snow drifts?

During winter wind can move big quantities of snow from one place to another. Snow drifts can increase the risk of avalanches in the mountains and can increase the risk for your roads, railways, and villages.

We have developed a unique solution to measure snow drift and snow blow (mass flux or mass transportation in different heights).

The Snow Drift Sensor (SND) is an extremely robust and easy to integrate sensor (via SDI-12 and analog interface integration). It is equipped with a highly sensitive microphone, which detects the impact of snow and ice particles on the sensor. The sound pressure is then converted into a very easy understandable unit (g/m²/s). The sensor is made with robust materials which allows you to install the SND in extreme environments.
